Downing-Imagn Images Six-time Olympic medalist Bode Miller, arrested earlier this month in Idaho on two misdemeanor charges of drug possession, denied on Tuesday that the substance was his.
Miller, 48, was charged on June 6 with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to court records obtained by People magazine and TMZ.
The retired Alpine skier was released on $5,000 cash bond and later pled not guilty to both charges, per the court records acquired by media outlets. He has a pretrial hearing on July 29, per the reports.
Miller responded to the news with a social-media post on Tuesday: "I was pulled over for accelerating while passing another vehicle on a highway in Idaho. My friend, who was traveling with me, had a small amount of cannabis and a cannabis pipe in his possession which I was unaware of. We fully cooperated with the officer. I am hopeful the misdemeanor charges will be dropped once the facts are reviewed."
Miller's six Olympic medals are more than any other male American skier and came in four different disciplines. Competing in five Winter Games (1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014), Miller took gold in the super combined event in 2010 at Vancouver. He also earned three silver and two bronze medals in his Olympic career.
The overall World Cup champion in 2005 and 2008 who collected four world championship golds in his career, Miller won 33 World Cup races -- a record for an American male. He retired from competitive skiing in 2017.
He was inducted into the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee Hall of Fame in July 2025. Miller also is a member of the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame Class of 2018.
