Mandatory Credit: Bob Donnan-Imagn Images Trevin Wallace, who made 12 starts at linebacker for the Carolina Panthers this season, underwent season-ending shoulder surgery, his coach said Friday.
"He was a stud about it," coach Dave Canales said, per the team website. "And it was a playable condition, but he wasn't really turning the corner to be able to play confidently the way that we know he can.
"And so we reevaluated that and really just collectively made that decision to make sure we can get this thing right, get ahead of it right now, and we have him getting ready to go for the spring and get him strong."
Wallace, 22, was in his second season with Carolina after being selected in the third round of the 2024 draft.
He was a starter from Week 1 on, but he missed Weeks 11 and 12 with a shoulder injury that continued to linger.
Wallace recorded 61 tackles (five for loss), four quarterback hits, two sacks and four pass breakups this season. He has 125 tackles and three sacks in 25 games over two seasons.
The Panthers (8-7) enter the penultimate regular-season game against the Seattle Seahawks with a one-game lead over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC South. Carolina can clinch the division for the first time since 2015 on Sunday with a win and a Tampa Bay loss at the Miami Dolphins.
