Police Say Parents Pretended Their Kid Had Cancer So He Could Meet Syracuse Football Team
credits: Nick Lisi | source: AP The world—okay, people on the internet—okay, some people in and around Syracuse—were touched by the story of C.J. LaFrance, a 9-year-old with Hodgkin’s lymphoma who was able to visit the Orange football team last August and hang out at practice. Police now say parents Martin and Jolene LaFrance fabricated the boy’s illness, and this video is of a healthy kid wearing a damn hat:
According to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, via Syracuse.com, the LaFrances were charged last Friday with scheme to defraud and endangering the welfare of a child. The parents’ GoFundMe page for C.J. raised over $3,000—out of a fucking bold goal of $8,000—which will be returned to the donors. On the original article from Syracuse.com, there was a comment left by the kid’s “grandmother,” who plugged the fundraising page:
These allegations are truly appalling. All that work to meet a team that hasn’t been better than 4-8 in each of the last four seasons.
