Mandatory Credit: Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports The Texas Rangers activated third baseman Josh Jung from the 60-day injured list Monday after he recovered from a right wrist fracture.
Jung, 26, was an All-Star in his first full-time MLB season in 2023 and helped Texas win the World Series, but he has missed most of 2024 after being hit on the wrist by a pitch April 1 in the fourth game of the season.
He had surgery the following day, but in trying to return to action quickly he suffered multiple setbacks.
Jung, a career .260 hitter with 30 home runs and 90 RBIs in 152 games, was not in the Rangers' starting lineup Monday against the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Rangers also moved right-handed starting pitcher Jon Gray to the 15-day injured list after he suffered a right groin strain during warmups Sunday and left the game against the Toronto Blue Jays before it began.
Gray, 32, is 5-4 with a 3.43 ERA in his third season with Texas following seven with the Colorado Rockies. He's managed just 78 strikeouts in 94 innings pitched.
In a slew of other moves, the Rangers also activated left-hander Cody Bradford (low back strain) from the 60-day IL; recalled infielder Ezequiel Duran and right-hander Gerson Garabito from Triple-A Round Rock; transferred outfielder Evan Carter (lumbar sprain) from the 10-day IL to the 60-day IL; and optioned catcher Andrew Knizner and infielders Justin Foscue and Jonathan Ornelas to Triple-A.
Texas also designated infielder Davis Wendzel for assignment.
