Mandatory Credit: Nathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images The New York Rangers are keeping one of their top internal goaltending options in place, signing Dylan Garand to a two-year contract extension.
The team announced the deal Sunday, giving the 24-year-old another chance to build on a brief but strong first look in the NHL. Garand appeared in three games for New York last season, going 2-0-1 with a 1.62 goals-against average and a .948 save percentage.
The deal is a two-way contract that pays Garand $850,000 in the first year that then converts to a one-way contract worth $900,000 in year two, according to The New York Post.
Garand made 35 saves on March 22 against the Winnipeg Jets in his NHL debut, then earned his first career win five days later by stopping 27 of 28 shots against the Chicago Blackhawks. He became the first Rangers rookie goalie to record at least one point in each of his first three NHL appearances since Henrik Lundqvist in 2005-06.
Garand spent most of the season with the Hartford Wolf Pack, posting a 16-15-2 record, a 2.83 GAA and an .896 save percentage in 36 AHL games.
A fourth-round pick by the Rangers in 2020, Garand has played 148 career AHL games, all with Hartford. He also has extensive international experience with Canada, including earning a gold medal at the 2022 World Juniors and posting a shutout in his first game at the 2025 World Championship.
