The 31-year-old center back is signed through the 2026 MLS season with a club option for 2027.
Hack played for Saudi Pro League side Al Qadsiah FC from 2023-24 after a long run in the German Bundesliga.
He will be reunited with Red Bulls coach Sandro Schwarz, who was his manager at Germany's Mainz 05 for several years.
"Alexander is a great defender that will bring a lot of passion and quality to our club," Schwarz said. "We are excited for him to get going with us on the pitch and we cannot wait for him to meet the rest of the group."
Hack accumulated eight goals and three assists in 145 matches with Mainz from 2015-23.
