Carlos Coronel recorded seven saves for the visiting New York Red Bulls on Saturday in a 0-0 tie against Atlanta United.
New York (1-1-1, 4 points) had just seven total shot attempts, none on goal, despite posting a 59.1 percent possession rate. The Red Bulls have now gone scoreless in two of three games to begin the season, following its season-opening 1-0 road loss to FC Cincinnati, before picking up a 2-0 home win over Nashville SC.
Atlanta (1-1-1, 4 points) finished with six shots on goal, and had 11 total shots, but came up empty after a flurry of chances in the first half.
Atlanta failed to score for the second consecutive game after coming off a 2-0 loss at Charlotte FC. Atlanta has been shut out in consecutive games for the first time in three seasons.
Atlanta couldn't connect on its five corner kicks and nine shots inside the box. However, its defensive back line made things easy on goalkeeper Brad Guzan, who had faced 23 total shots in the team's first two games of the season.
Atlanta's best chances early came 17, 19 and 22 minutes in, as Emmanuel Latte Lath had three shots on goal - the latter two saved by Coronel.
Despite New York controlling the possession for 56 percent of the first half, Atlanta outshot the Red Bulls 9-2, including a 6-0 margin in shots on goal. A last-ditch effort was fruitless for Atlanta after three minutes of stoppage time was added.
Saturday marked Atlanta's first of two home matches. The club hosts Inter Miami FC next Sunday. New York returns home a week from today to face Orlando City SC. The two Eastern Conference teams will meet again on May 31 in New York.
