Reds activate LHP Nick Lodolo (finger blister) for Tuesday start
Cincinnati Reds pitcher Nick Lodolo (40) pitches in the second inning between the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati on Saturday, July 11, 2026. One month after landing on the 15-day injured list with a blister on his left index finger, Cincinnati Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo was activated for Tuesday's start against the host Chicago White Sox.
To open a roster spot for Lodolo, the Reds optioned right-hander Zach McCambley to Triple-A Louisville. Cincinnati also purchased the contract of first baseman/outfielder Michael Toglia by moving right-hander Hunter Greene to the 60-day IL. Greene is set to have season-ending elbow surgery this week.
Lodolo, 28, is 3-2 this season with a 4.60 ERA, 27 walks and 50 strikeouts in 62 2/3 innings over 12 starts. He exited his July 11 start against the Chicago Cubs with a blister issue on the same finger that forced him to begin the season on the IL.
For his career, Lodolo is 27-24 with a 4.13 ERA, 144 walks and 506 strikeouts in 472 1/3 innings over 88 regular-season games (87 starts) since 2022.
He also went on the injured list because of blisters in 2024 and 2025 and missed time while a minor leaguer in 2021. Cincinnati selected Lodolo in the first round (seventh overall) in the 2019 MLB Draft.
Lodolo altered his grip on his curveball in hopes of avoiding additional blister issues. In a rehab stint with Louisville last Wednesday, he gave up three runs over 4 1/3 innings.
McCambley, 27, made his major league debut June 3 and has a 4.70 ERA in seven relief appearances with seven strikeouts and six walks over 7 2/3 innings.
Toglia, who turns 28 on Sunday, is back in the majors after parts of four seasons with the Colorado Rockies (2022-25), where he hit .201 with 42 home runs and 108 RBIs over 280 games. His best season came in 2024, when he belted 25 homers with 55 RBIs in 116 games. Colorado made him a first-round pick (No. 23 overall) in the 2019 MLB Draft.
