Report: 49ers Linebacker Aldon Smith Now Facing Felony Gun Charges
Aldon Smith is still on indefinite leave from the 49ers to deal with his substance abuse problems, but his legal troubles just got a hell of a lot worse.
NBC Bay Area reports that the Santa Clara (Calif.) district attorney's office has filed three felony weapons charges against Smith. The charges spring from a June 2012 house party Smith hosted in which he was stabbed and two people were shot. Smith and teammate Delanie Walker have already been hit with two civil lawsuits stemming from that party. Neither suit alleges that Smith or Walker fired the shots, though at least one of the lawsuits accuses Smith of firing weapons and owning illegal firearms.
Smith entered an in-patient rehab two weeks ago, a few days after he was slapped with his second DUI since January 2012. The NBC Bay Area report said Smith is expected to turn himself in on the gun charges later this month.
