Reports: All-Pro G Zack Martin tells Cowboys he's retiring
Oct 13, 2024; Arlington, Texas, USA; Dallas Cowboys guard Zack Martin (70) lines up for the snap during the first quarter against the Detroit Lions at AT&T Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Andrew Dieb-Imagn Images Dallas Cowboys star guard Zack Martin, a seven-time first-team All-Pro and nine-time Pro Bowl selection, will retire after 11 seasons, multiple media outlets reported Thursday.
Per ESPN, Martin informed Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones of his decision during a meeting on Thursday.
Martin, 34, missed the last seven games of the 2024 season due to season-ending ankle surgery. He was slated to become a free agent in March after 162 regular-season games (all starts) with Dallas, which drafted him in the first round in 2014 out of Notre Dame.
Only Jason Witten, Bob Lilly, Larry Allen and Mel Renfro had more Pro Bowl selections with the Cowboys than Martin, who tied Lilly and Randy White among Cowboys with his seven first-time All-Pro seasons. All but Witten are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and Witten becomes eligible this year.
A member of the NFL's All-Decade team from 2010-19, Martin had said during appearances before Super Bowl LIX that he would decide whether he would return for a 12th season in the next four to six weeks.
