Mandatory Credit: Raymond Carlin III-Imagn Images LIV Golf slashed the prize pool for this week's season-ending event in Indianapolis as some players are still awaiting payments from the previous tournament, according to multiple reports Tuesday.
Players reportedly will be competing for a lot less money than originally planned starting Thursday at The Club at Chatham Hills in Westfield, Ind.
Instead of a $20 million purse for the individual competition, Bunkered reported that only $10.1 million will now be up for grabs with $2.02 million going to the winner instead of the standard $4 million.
This week's tournament will also serve as the season-ending team championship, with LIV Golf confirming Monday that it had canceled the originally scheduled Aug. 27-30 team championship in Michigan.
According to Golf.com, teams will compete for a $30 million prize pool, down from $50 million in 2025. The winning team's bonus was reduced from $11.2 million to $8.4 million, per the report.
Some players still haven't been paid from the last tournament, LIV Golf New York, which ended on Aug. 9, the Sports Business Journal reported. Golfers typically receive their winnings on the Tuesday or Wednesday after completion of an event.
One source told the Sports Business Journal that some players may choose not to compete in Indianapolis because of the lack of payment to date.
LIV Golf declined to comment on Tuesday's various reports. CEO Scott O'Neil is scheduled to provide a league update in a press conference on Wednesday.
No pre-tournament player press conferences have been announced so far. LIV Golf typically makes players from at least two teams available ahead of each event.
LIV Golf has been seeking alternative financial resources since Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund announced in April that it would no longer fund the tour after this season.
