Mandatory Credit: Brett Davis-Imagn Images Victor Caratini agreed to a two-year, $14 million contract with the Twins on Friday, according to multiple media reports, giving Minnesota a switch-hitting option at catcher and first base.
The deal reportedly wasn't finalized pending a physical exam.
Caratini, 32, fills the vacancy created when Christian Vazquez became a free agent after last season.
Caratini produced career highs of 12 homers and 46 RBIs last season while playing 114 games for the Houston Astros. He batted .259 with a .324 on-base percentage and a .404 slugging percentage, seeing the majority of his action behind the plate while also serving as a designated hitter and first baseman.
The journeyman has played for the Chicago Cubs (2017-20), San Diego Padres (2021), Milwaukee Brewers (2022-23) and Houston (2024-25). In 720 career games, he has a .244/.321/.371 batting line with 58 home runs and 247 RBIs.
He figures to join Alex Jackson as a backup to the Twins' regular catcher, Ryan Jeffers.
