Downing-Imagn Images The Colorado Rockies released struggling left-hander Austin Gomber with just over a month left in the season.
The Rockies also placed right-hander Dugan Darnell on the 15-day injured list with left hip inflammation, while right-hander Angel Chivilli was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque and left-hander Lucas Gilbreath had his contract purchased from Albuquerque.
Gomber, 31, struggled to an 0-7 record and a 7.49 ERA in 12 starts for Colorado this season, with his final start for the club Tuesday when he gave up seven runs on nine hits over three innings to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
He did not make his season debut until June because of a shoulder injury and is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.
Acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals in February of 2021 in the deal that ended Nolan Arenado's time in Colorado, Gomber has gone 35-47 with a 5.08 ERA in 168 career appearances (124 starts) over seven seasons for the Cardinals and Rockies.
Darnell, 28, is 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA in nine appearances after making his major league debut Aug. 1. Chivilli, 23, was 1-4 with a 7.28 ERA in 30 relief appearances for the club earlier this season, while Gilbreath, 29, is set to make his 2025 debut after pitching in three major league games the past two seasons.
