Rockies win second straight against Marlins, claim first series of the season

Hunter Goodman hit a two-out, solo home run in the eighth inning, and the visiting Colorado Rockies beat the Miami Marlins 3-2 on Tuesday night to clinch their first series victory of this season.

The Rockies had lost all 19 series this season -- 10 on the road -- and a big-league record 22 in a row dating back to 2024. Colorado has won two straight games for just the second time in 2025 and can earn its first series sweep Thursday afternoon.

The Rockies have just 11 wins but are 2-1 in June.

Tyler Freeman had three hits, Goodman and Jordan Beck finished with two hits each and Victor Vodnik (1-1) got the victory with 1-1/3 innings of relief.

Jesus Sanchez and Kyle Stowers had two hits apiece for Miami, which has dropped three in a row.

The game was tied after seven innings and Marlins reliever Anthony Bender (1-4) struck out Thairo Estrada leading off the eighth. Goodman then homered to left to give Colorado the lead.

It was his 10th of the season.

Seth Halvorsen got the final three outs for his third save for the Rockies.

The Marlins grabbed the lead in the third inning against Colorado starter Chase Dollander. Nick Fortes and Javier Sanoja led off with walks and Fortes advanced to third on a flyout. Sanchez followed with a single to right, driving in Fortes and sending Sanoja to third.

Sanoja was thrown out at home on a fielder's choice but Stowers singled to center to bring home Sanchez to make it 2-0.

Dollander left after getting the third out. He allowed two runs on two hits and walked three in his three innings.

The Rockies got even in the fifth inning. Miami starter Sandy Alcantara walked Mickey Moniak with one out, Moniak then stole second and went to third on Freeman's infield single.

Moniak came home and Freeman went to third on Beck's RBI single, and Freeman scored on Estrada's sacrifice fly to tie the game.

Alcantara tossed six innings to tie his season high, allowing two runs on four hits and struck out four.
