Royals GM Discusses The Dangers Of Porn During Danny Duffy Presser
Royals GM Dayton Moore held a press conference this afternoon to discuss how the organization is handling pitcher Danny Duffy’s DUI arrest Sunday, and at one point jumped from talking about DUIs to discussing a link between watching porn and domestic abuse.
A clip of the presser, via True Blue:
When Moore was asked if there were “new educational protocols in place after what happened this offseason with Yordano [Ventura] regarding drinking and driving,” the deeply religious general manager gave a puzzling answer:
We’ve done a lot of leadership stuff with our players. Very transparent about things that happen in our game, not only with drugs and alcohol. We talk about pornography, and the effects of what that does to the minds of players and the distractions, and how that leads to abuse of—domestic abuse—to abuse of women. How it impacts relationships—we talk about a lot of things. And I don’t mind sharing with you.
Dayton Moore’s personal distaste for porn is fine, but the Royals discussing it with players is a little strange and probably fairly awkward, and linking porn to domestic violence to the extent that Moore did during the presser seems out of place.
