Ryan Johnson, Angels shut down Orioles

Vasquez-Imagn Images Ryan Johnson allowed one hit over six shutout innings and Nolan Schanuel hit a home run to lead the Los Angeles Angels to a 5-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night in Anaheim, Calif.
Zach Neto doubled and had two hits and two runs scored and Vaughn Grissom drove in two runs for Los Angeles, which picked up its third win in the last four games.
Johnson (1-2), making his third career start, entered the contest with a 12.83 ERA in five games (two starts) this season. He carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before allowing a one-out line-drive single to center to Jeremiah Jackson. He then bounced back to get Taylor Ward to ground into an inning-ending double play.
Johnson walked one and struck out a career-high eight batters. He threw 90 pitches, 63 for strikes, while picking up his second big league win in 20 career appearances.
Shane Baz (4-8) suffered the loss for Baltimore, which had a three-game win streak snapped. Baz allowed five runs on eight hits and a walk over five innings while striking out five.
Los Angeles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Schanuel's sixth home run, a 382-foot drive to right-center, driving in Neto, who had singled.
The Angels opened the fifth inning with four straight hits while building a 5-0 lead. Jose Siri began the inning with an infield single and advanced to third on Neto's double off the left field wall. Grissom then followed with a two-run single to left to make it 4-0, and then advanced to third on a single by Schanuel. Jorge Soler drove in Grissom with a sacrifice fly.
Baltimore broke up the shutout in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Leody Taveras, driving in Gunnar Henderson, who led off with a single, went to second on a walk to Pete Alonso and advanced to third on a fielder's choice.
