Financial terms were not released by the school, but the San Diego Union-Tribune reported the new deal is worth $2.3 million annually, up from $1 million.
Dutcher, 64, led SDSU to the NCAA Tournament national championship game last April. The No. 21 Aztecs are 22-8 this season and fifth in the Mountain West with an 11-6 mark.
"Our success began 25 years ago when my friend Steve Fisher came to The Mesa and along with my assistant coaches, we have built a program that competes on a national level every night," Dutcher said in a statement. "I got into coaching to affect the lives of young people and to be able to do it at a school and in a city I love, is all anyone can ask for."
In 102 previous seasons at SDSU, no previous head coach has won 21 or more games in each of his first seven seasons or compiled more victories to date (173). Dutcher's 75.9 winning percentage is the best in program history, the school said in its release.
Dutcher sits at 173-55 overall in his tenure. SDSU is his first stint as a head coach.
SDSU ends its regular season at home vs. Boise State on Friday.
