Suzuki smacked his 15th and 16th homers in support of Jameson Taillon (6-3), who posted his fourth consecutive victory and fifth straight quality start. Taillon allowed one run and three hits with one walk and five strikeouts in seven innings.
Taillon has allowed just five runs during his winning streak in a span of 26 2/3 innings.
Michael Busch hit a two-run homer, while Pete Crow-Armstrong and Matt Shaw added solo blasts. All but two of Chicago's hits were home runs after the Cubs were held to one run in the series opener.
Zach McKinstry had a triple and scored the lone run for Detroit. Keider Montero gave up four runs and five hits in 5 2/3 innings.
Suzuki's two-out homer to left in the first off Tyler Holton (2-3), who was used as an opener, gave the Cubs an early advantage.
Nico Hoerner led off the fifth inning for the Cubs with an infield single and Busch smashed his two-run shot, estimated at 414 feet, over the right-field wall for his 10th homer.
Detroit got on the board in the bottom of the fifth. McKinstry pulled a triple down the right-field line and scored on Jake Rogers' fielder's choice grounder.
Chicago lengthened its lead in the seventh when Crow-Armstrong lofted an 0-1 curveball from Montero over the right field wall for his 17th homer.
Three batters later, Shaw smoked a 2-1 Montero slider over the left field fence to make it 5-1. Suzuki''s second homer of the day came off Chase Lee in the eighth inning.
Detroit had two baserunners on in the eighth and ninth innings but couldn't push another run across.
