Serena and Venus Williams to team up at U.S. Open

Serena and Venus Williams received a wild card to play in doubles at the U.S. Open, the tournament announced Wednesday.

The sisters competed together last week at the Cincinnati Open after a nearly four-year absence. They won doubles titles at the U.S. Open in 1999 and 2009, two of their 14 major doubles titles together.

Serena Williams, 44, reached the U.S. Open quarterfinals in mixed doubles alongside Spain's Carlos Alcaraz on Tuesday before falling to Switzerland's Belinda Bencic and Italy's Flavio Cobolli.

Serena Williams returned to the WTA Tour this year for the first time since 2022.

She has played just one singles match this year, a first-round loss to Australia's Maya Joint at Wimbledon. In that match, the 23-time Grand Slam singles winner sustained a right knee injury that kept her from competing with her sister in the Wimbledon doubles event.

Venus Williams, 46, previously received one of eight wild cards for the singles tournament at the U.S. Open.
