Sharks acquire D Ryan Ellis, draft pick from Flyers

Mandatory Credit: Eric Hartline-Imagn Images The San Jose Sharks acquired defenseman Ryan Ellis and a conditional 2026 sixth-round draft selection from the Philadelphia Flyers for forward Carl Grundstrom and defenseman Artem Guryev, the Sharks announced Sunday.
The Predators selected Ellis with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2009 NHL Draft, and he has played 11 seasons with Nashville (2011-21) and the Flyers (2021-22). He was limited to four games for the Flyers because of multiple injuries and has not played since November 2021.
Now 34, Ellis recorded 275 points (76 goals, 199 assists) in 566 games.
Because of his physical condition, Ellis probably will not play again, with the Sharks likely to put him on long-term injury reserve. While they are absorbing the final two years of his eight-year contract, which carries an annual $6.25 million cap hit, the Sharks now get roster flexibility.
And the Flyers get salary cap relief, clearing $4.45 million from the books.
The 27-year-old Grundstrom played in 56 games with the Sharks last season and scored nine points (three goals, six assists), He has appeared in 292 games with the Los Angeles Kings (2018-24) and San Jose and tallied 76 points (43 goals, 33 assists).
Guryev, 22, played with Wichita of the ECHL last season and scored five points (two goals, three assists) in 47 games.
