Mandatory Credit: Eric Bolte-Imagn Images The PGA Tour delayed the start of Friday's second round by four hours at the Shriners Children's Open due to high winds in Las Vegas.
The start originally was delayed two hours and practice facilities were closed due to 40-50 mph wind gusts at TPC Summerlin. An additional two-hour delay pushed the scheduled start time to 1:55 p.m. ET
"The Friday morning delay at the Shriners Children's Open is due to extremely high winds we are experiencing in Las Vegas," chief referee Stephen Cox said in a statement. "For the safety of operational staff, tournament volunteers, spectators and our athletes and caddies, we have extended the delay as we continue to monitor the situation."
Taylor Pendrith of Canada fired a 10-under-par 61 to leap out to a lead after Thursday's opening round.
When play was suspended due to darkness, 10 players were tied for second at 7-under 64. Eight players had yet to finish their rounds, including Joe Highsmith, who was 6 under through 17 holes and will have a 23-foot putt for eagle at his finishing hole, the par-5 ninth.
