Sky rookie Kamilla Cardoso (shoulder) out 4-6 weeks
Chicago Sky rookie center Kamilla Cardoso will miss the beginning of her inaugural WNBA season, as she is sidelined four to six weeks due to a shoulder injury.
The team revealed the timeline for Cardoso's absence but offered no other details about the injury.
Cardoso got hurt in the Sky's 92-81 defeat against the visiting Minnesota Lynx on Friday in the teams' exhibition opener. Cardoso finished with six points, four rebounds and two blocked shots in 13 minutes.
The Sky were relying on the rookie pair of Cardoso and Angel Reese to bolster their frontcourt.
Cardoso, who is 6-foot-7, was drafted third overall by the Sky on April 15 after leading South Carolina to a second NCAA Tournament championship in three seasons. The 23-year-old Brazil native was selected the tournament's Most Outstanding Player last month.
She averaged 14.4 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game in her final collegiate season.
Reese was drafted seventh overall last month after an LSU career that included a national championship in 2023 and a unanimous All-America selection in 2024.
The Sky's second-round draft pick this year, former Gonzaga guard Brynna Maxwell, will miss the next three to four weeks because of a knee injury.
Chicago forward Taya Reimer will miss the team's Tuesday exhibition game against the visiting New York Liberty because she is in the concussion protocol. Sky forward Isabelle Harrison is listed as questionable because of a knee injury.
