Steelers vs. Colts - 3rd Quarter
This image was lost some time after publication. • Ah, it's the annual Punt, Pass, and Kick competition at halftime, but Dick Enberg is going to make me wait until the start of the 4th quarter to find out who won. DAMN you, Dick Enberg. I have $400 on David Giroux to win the 8-year-old division.
• The early portion of this period is crucial. If the Colts are going to assert the dominance that they've shown all season, they'll do it right now.
• The Colts end up punting on their first drive, and on the second, are extremely lucky not to take a safety. Man, it looked to me like the ball was back across the goal line when his knees were down. But the Steelers are going to have great field position and an opportunity to really grab this game by the throat.
• The Steelers take that field position and shove the ball directly into the Colts rectal area. Jerome Bettis plunges it in from the one, and with 16 and a half minutes to play, the Colts are just about dunzo.
• Needing a touchdown drive right about now, Peyton Manning comes out and on 1st down, runs for his life before throwing a very short incompletion. On 2nd down, he bounces one off of Troy Polamalu's hands. On third down, he completes one short in the flat to Edgerrin James.
• Hey, I thought that'd be the end of the drive. Peyton Manning sends the punt team off, and keeps the offense out there with him to go for it on 4th-and-2. Does he really have the power to do that? Tony Dungy wouldn't really let his QB emasculate him like that, would he? That had to be something pre-planned, to keep the defense off-balance. That's my guess.
