Surge, Heretics top standings at CDL Stage 3 qualifying
The Vancouver Surge were among the notable winners on Saturday, extended to five maps to down Cloud9 New York in Call of Duty League Stage 3 Major qualifying.
The Miami Heretics, who also won on Saturday, share first place with Vancouver at 4-1 in the standings.
The Stage 3 Major qualifying round has the league's 12 teams playing five qualifying matches apiece through Sunday to determine seeding for the Stage 3 Major playoffs, slated for April 24-27 in Boca Raton, Fla.
The Vancouver Surge outlasted Cloud9 New York 3-2, and they had to rally to do it. Cloud9 won 250-231 on Hacienda Hardpoint, then the Surge drew even with a 6-5 win on Red Card Search & Destroy. Cloud9 responded with a 3-1 victory on Hacienda Control before Vancouver took the series 250-143 on Skyline Hardpoint and 6-1 on Protocol Search & Destroy.
The Miami Heretics opened with wins of 250-188 on Hacienda Hardpoint and 6-3 on Rewind Search & Destroy before Minnesota Rokkr dealt a 3-0 setback on Vault Control. The Heretics ended it, 250-151 on Protocol Hardpoint.
The Los Angeles Guerrillas M8 dealt Toronto Ultra a 250-64 loss on Hacienda Hardpoint to open their match, but it was not to be their day. Toronto responded by winning on Rewind Search & Destroy (6-4), Protocol Control (3-2) and Vault Hardpoint (250-158).
The Atlanta FaZe followed a similar path to victory. The Vegas Falcons won on Skyline Hardpoint 250-133 before Atlanta responded with wins on Dealership Search & Destroy(6-0), Protocol Control (3-0) and Red Card Hardpoint (250-241).
