Suteepat Preteeptienchai shoots 64, field of 20 set at LIV Golf Promotions

Thailand's Suteepat Prateeptienchai shot 8-under-par 64 in the second round at LIV Golf Promotions at Abu Dhabi Golf Club, with the field of 20 set for Sunday's 36-hole finale.

The top three finishers will earn spots in the LIV Golf League in 2024.

"It's going to be awesome if I qualify for 2024 LIV Golf," said Prateeptienchai, the winner of the recent Asian Tour Taiwan Glass Taifong Open.

Laurie Canter of England birdied the 18th hole in regulation to make a five-man playoff that decided the last four spots in the Sunday field.

Canter birdied again in the playoff to clinch a spot for Sunday. He's trying to get back to LIV Golf next season. Canter was a full-time player in 2022 and made 11 starts as a reserve in 2023.

Canter was part of the cluster of players forced into the playoff by finishing at 3-under. Kevin Chappell (par) and Kevin Yuan (par) advanced after the first playoff hole. Joel Stalter birdied the second playoff hole to eliminate Ben Campbell.

"It's very intense because you're playing elimination and then you start over again," Stalter said.

Three relegated 2023 LIV Golf League players entered the Saturday field. Only Jediah Morgan, who played for the all-Australian Ripper GC, advanced with a round of 66.

China's 22-year-old amateur Sampson-Yunhe Zheng shot a bogey-free 67, wrapping his round with an eagle on the 18th hole to clinch his position in the final.
