Padres Catcher Christian Bethancourt Made The Most Of His Chance To Pitch
The Padres got walloped 16-4 this afternoon by the Mariners, and they lost the first two games of a weird home and away pair of two-game series on opposite ends of the (American) Pacific coast by an aggregate score of 25-7. It only took Seattle five innings to accrue all their runs, which ushered in...
World War II Veteran Has Decent Off-Speed Stuff
World War II veteran Burke Waldron tossed the first pitch for the Seattle Mariners for Monday’s Memorial Day game. Hitters beware: this guy has a mean breaking ball....
Here's Some Baseball Knowledge To Get You Thinking About The Relentless Approach Of Death
Hello, fellow millennial baseball fans, I have come to make you sad....
Nelson Cruz Sent This Pitch To Goddamn Pluto
The Seattle Mariners wrapped up a sweep of the Oakland A’s today in the Bay Area, and the club is now first in the AL West (the A’s are weirdly twice as good on the road than at home this season, perhaps owing to the fact that their stadium is a cavernous wind trap without adequate plumbing.) Seattl...
Korean Announcers Lose Their Shit Over Dae-Ho Lee's 10th-Inning Walk-Off Dinger
The Mariners stopped their five-game skid in the most emphatic way possible: by walking off the winners after a big ole’ dinger in the tenth inning against a division rival. You can watch the official MLB version of Dae-Ho Lee’s home run against the Rangers if you want, but we recommend these Korean...
The Mariners Just Can't Stop Slappin' Dingers
The Mariners opened the season with a rather odd little loss to the Texas Rangers. Since then, however, they have managed to humiliate a presumptive AL playoff team to the tune of 19 runs in their next two games....
Felix Hernandez's Loss Was One Of The Weirdest In Baseball History
Felix Hernandez is one of the best pitchers working today, and until this afternoon, he’d never lost an Opening Day start. Thanks in part to the King’s dominance over the past half-decade, the Mariners had a chance to become the first team since the 19th century to win ten straight openers. But the ...
Felix Hernandez And Adrian Beltre's Friendly Rivalry Is Still The Best
The best thing about any game between the Rangers and Mariners is the likelihood that it will involve Felix Hernandez and Adrian Beltre joking around and talking shit to each other. They do this all the time, and last night was no different:...
Kyle Seager Trolled Jered Weaver Into Getting Ejected
You probably won’t see a beanball more obviously deliberate than the one Jered Weaver laid on Kyle Seager in last night’s 3-1 Mariners win. Or one more nonchalant....
Fernando Rodney Hides In Shrubbery, Might Actually Be An Elf
It hit 93 degrees in Denver today, and with the sun beating down through the thin Rockies air, Mariners closer Fernando Rodney decided to take a short siesta in the Swill Beer Field shrubbery:...
The Improbable Story Of Baseball's Wildest Comeback
It definitely ain’t over ‘til it’s over. The 116-win 2001 Seattle Mariners were one of the greatest teams, in any sport, to not win a championship. Led by Lou Piniella, the team was built for success: they boasted great pitching, an impeccable knack for getting on base (their .360 OBP was the highes...
Blue Jays' Awful Baserunning Turns Grounder Into Triple Play
You want to see a 3-6-2 triple play? Here’s one, courtesy of some putrid baserunning by the Toronto Blue Jays. How rare is this play? The last time it happened was in 1955, according to SABR....
Brad Ausmus Has His Ned Yost Moment
It’s been a disappointing season for the Detroit Tigers, who won 90 games last year and expected to be a playoff team again this season. After blowing a late lead and losing 11-9 to the Mariners last night, the Tigers’ record sits at 46-47, and there is talk about the team unloading talent at the tr...
David Price Says Seattle's Bullpen Mound Is Dangerous
Yesterday was a throw day for David Price, and with the Tigers on the road in Seattle he used the visiting bullpen at Safeco Field. He wasn’t a fan:...
Idiot On The Field Invades Angels Game, Eludes Security, Throws Pitch
Sunday’s Mariners-Angels game featured an Idiot on the Field who lasted quite a while. The shirtless guy made it from center field to the pitcher’s mound and even pretended to throw a pitch. Security eventually corralled him near the dugout....
Robinson Cano Leaves Game After Drilled In Head By Errant Throw
A bad warmup throw knocked Robinson Canó out of tonight’s game against the Angels when the Mariners second baseman got drilled in the head by a baseball....
Felix Hernandez's Son Isn't Here For The Bullshit
The Seattle Mariners did a cute thing before yesterday’s Father’s Day game, having a few of the players line up to catch first pitches from their kids. Keep an eye on the last kid in line, who is Felix Hernandez’s son. ...
Ruben Amaro Jr.: How Bad A GM Do You Think I Am?
Last night, CSN Philadelphia’s Jim Salisbury reported that the Mariners are “checking in” on speedy Phillies outfielder Ben Revere. This makes sense: Revere has been squeezed out of his natural left-field role, and despite a down year, is still miles better than what Seattle has been getting from it...
Lloyd McClendon Gets Ejected, Goes Berzerk, Receives Standing Ovation
Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon was extremely mad at the umpires in tonight’s contest against the Yankees, so mad that he made sure to yell at three different umps individually....
