The NBA Draft: Where Love Happens?
Jan Vesely, a 6-11 swingman from the Czech Republic, was selected sixth overall by the Washington Wizards in last night's NBA Draft. For any 21-year-old, the moment would have been special. You're on national television in a brand new suit, and you're about to become a millionaire. But Vesely and his girlfriend, Eva Kodouskova, further memorialized it with an awards show kiss that understandably attracted some immediate curiosity. It was adorable.
It was also unexpected. The draft's formula is firmly and tediously in place: Players tend to go to the mom-hug first (or, as we saw for probably the first time last night, the mom-and-mom's-lesbian-partner-hug), and players also do not tend to have a mystery six-foot-something begowned lady seated next to them at the table. One who reportedly has a better free throw percentage than said player.
Vesely (along with Kodouskova, who even had her own "Bio Blast" on SportsCenter this morning) won the draft last night. This is the best storyline the Wizards have ever known, and even our frigid, cynical hearts were momentarily warmed — even if it was really only the second-best kiss in sports this month.
