Mandatory Credit: Bruce Kluckhohn-Imagn Images The Minnesota Twins placed three-time All-Star center fielder Byron Buxton on the injured list with a right hip impingement on Sunday, while outfielder Gabriel Gonzalez was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul.
The oft-injured Buxton, who also went on the IL with a right hip injury last month, has not played since leaving early from Tuesday's game against the Athletics. It is Buxton's third trip to the IL this season with hip issues and the move is retroactive to August 27.
Buxton, 32, is batting .254 with 25 home runs and 46 RBIs in 93 games this season. Over 12 major league seasons, Buxton has played more than 102 games just twice, including 126 games last season. He is a career .248 hitter with 193 home runs and 482 RBIs in 991 games, all with the Twins.
Gonzalez, 22, made his major league debut May 22 and has appeared in just one game, going 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored against the Boston Red Sox.
