U.S. to face South Korea in Overwatch World Cup 2026 quarterfinals

Jordan Woodruff South Korea swept Denmark on Sunday to capture second place in Group D at the Overwatch World Cup 2026 in Busan, South Korea.
By virtue of their 3-0 win, South Korea punched its ticket to the quarterfinals of the playoffs where it will face the undefeated United States on Sept. 12 in Anaheim, Calif. The Americans finished with a 3-0 record in Group A.
South Korea took down Denmark 2-0 on Nepal and 1-0 on Neon Junction before finishing off the sweep with a triumph on Esperanca.
Sixteen national teams began round-robin play in four groups. The group stage ended Sunday with the top two teams in each quartet advancing to the single-elimination playoffs, scheduled for Sept. 12-13.
Also in Group D, unbeaten France swept Columbia after notching a 2-0 win on Samoa and 3-1 victories on New Junk City and Neon Junction. France advanced to the quarterfinals to face Australia, who seized a 3-2 win over Mexico in a Group B match.
Australia got off to a fast start with a 2-0 win on Nepal and a 1-0 victory on Junkertown before Mexico answered with triumphs on Colosseo (84.91m-81.93m) and Neon Junction (3-2). Australia, however, ended the match with a 3-1 victory on Aatils.
Saudi Arabia remained unbeaten by sweeping the United Kingdom, courtesy of 2-0, 1-0 and 3-2 wins on Nepal, Junkertown and New Junk City, respectively.
Saudi Arabia advanced to the quarterfinals to face Spain, which swept Canada in a Group C match on Sunday.
Spain recorded 2-1 wins on Busan and Paraiso and a 3-1 victory on New Junk City.
Germany secured first place in Group C by sweeping Thailand, courtesy of a 2-0 win on Nepal, 3-1 victory on Neon Junction and 3-0 on New Junk City. Germany will face Sweden in the quarterfinals.
