Mandatory Credit: Rob Gray-Imagn Images Kevin Stenlund scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period and the Utah Hockey Club downed the host Detroit Red Wings, 4-2, on Thursday night.
Stenlund's goal was his first in 24 games. Dylan Guenther, Nick Schmaltz and Logan Crouse scored the other goals for Utah, which now has won four of its last five games. Karel Vejmelka made 38 saves.
Dylan Larkin and Jonatan Berggren scored first-period goals for the Red Wings, who have lost four straight. Alex Lyon stopped 15 shots.
Carter Mazur's NHL debut for the Red Wings lasted only two shifts. Mazur, a 22-year-old forward called up from the American Hockey League's Grand Rapids Griffins earlier in the day, suffered an upper body injury in the first period and did not return.
Detroit led 2-1 after the first period.
Guenther scored 2:08 into the contest from a tough angle on the left side, his team-high 23rd goal of the season. Alexander Kerfoot and Michel Kesselring had the assists.
Detroit responded just over a minute later. Elmer Soderblom made a backhanded pass from behind the Utah net to Larkin, who scored from the slot while falling down. It was Larkin's first point in four games. Vladimir Tarasenko had the second assist.
Berggren scored his first goal in seven games at 8:49 of the period. He banged in a rebound of a Tyler Motte shot.
There were four penalties called in the second period and Utah converted on a power play at 13:01 to tie the game at 2-apiece. With Albert Johansson in the penalty box for holding, Schmaltz scored from the left side of the net off a nifty feed from Barrett Hayton. Clayton Keller notched the other assist and 300th of his career.
Stenlund gave Utah a 3-2 lead at 2:55 of the third. Kesselring shoveled the puck away from the boards and it deflected off a defender's stick and onto Stenlund's stick. Stenlund fired the puck past Lyon from the right circle.
Crouse made it 4-2 at 7:51 of the period, scoring in front off a Jack McBain feed.
