Vancouver drafts D Caroline Harvey with No. 1 pick
Wisconsin's Caroline Harvey looks to make a pass during the first period of a 7-0 victory over Bemidji State Friday Feb. 27, 2026 at LaBahn Arena in Madison, Wis. The Vancouver Goldeneyes selected Wisconsin defender Caroline Harvey with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 PWHL Draft in Detroit.
Harvey, 23, won three national championships with the Badgers and captured a gold medal with Team USA at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics. She also was named the 2026 IIHF Female Player of the Year on Wednesday.
A total of 72 players were selected in the six-round draft, including 42 forwards, 22 defenders and eight goaltenders.
Fourteen draftees competed in the 2026 Winter Games in Italy, representing five countries.
Selected players came from eight countries, led by the United States (31) and Canada (30).
A total of 59 draftees came from NCAA programs and 11 were from professional teams.
The Seattle Torrent took Minnesota forward Abbey Murphy with the second pick.
Four expansion teams made their inaugural draft selections. Las Vegas had two picks in the first round: forwards Tessa Janecke of Penn State (third overall) and Lacey Eden of Wisconsin (fifth). San Jose took Wisconsin forward Laila Edwards fourth, while Hamilton picked Minnesota defender Nelli Laitinen sixth and Detroit chose Swiss goaltender Andrea Brandli at No. 15.
