Victor Wembanyama, Spurs rally to beat Nets in OT

Victor Wembanyama filled up the stat sheet again, racking up 33 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists and seven blocked shots to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a rousing 122-115 overtime victory over the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday in Austin, Texas.

San Antonio trailed by 10 points midway through the fourth quarter but rallied to tie the game at 107 on Wembanyama's dunk with 1:45 remaining. The Spurs then took the lead on Keldon Johnson's 3-pointer on the ensuing possession, but Brooklyn's Dennis Schroder canned a jumper from beyond the arc with 16 seconds left to tie the game at 110 and send the game to an extra period.

The Nets went up 115-112 two minutes into overtime after Dorian Finney-Smith's dunk. San Antonio then rang up the game's final 10 points, highlighted by back-to-back baskets by Wembanyama, the latter a dunk with 38 seconds remaining.

Wembanyama then blocked Schroder's layup attempt with 25 seconds left, with the play having to be verified by the officials after it was originally called goaltending. Johnson hit a layup with 20.8 seconds remaining to stoke San Antonio's lead to three points and he added a pair of free throws to help ice the game.

Devin Vassell added 25 points and eight assists while Johnson had 24 points, Tre Jones scored 11 with seven assists and Cedi Osman hit for 10 points as San Antonio (15-53) snapped a three-game losing streak.

Cam Thomas led the Nets (26-42) with 31 points. Schroder added 19, Day'Ron Sharpe had 15 points, Mikal Bridges tallied 14, Cameron Johnson hit for 12 and Nic Claxton amassed 11 points and 14 rebounds for Brooklyn, which dropped its third straight game.

San Antonio tied the game at 31 on a cutting layup by Cedi Osman with 9:57 remaining in the second quarter. The Nets answered with a 7-0 surge and then pushed their lead to 47-39 after Thomas' layup with 3:49 to play until halftime.

That's when Keldon Johnson caught fire and drained 3-pointers on three consecutive trips down the floor, the last of the three finishing as a four-point play. His outburst helped San Antonio claw to within 56-55 at the break.

Thomas led the Nets with 15 points before halftime while Wembanyama added a dozen points for the Spurs in the half.

The game was the second of a two-game set played by the Spurs in the Texas capital as part of their annual community outreach initiative.
