Mandatory Credit: Ken Blaze-Imagn Images Braden Montgomery scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning on a Sam Antonacci groundout, lifting the visiting Chicago White Sox to a 7-6 win over the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday afternoon.
The White Sox took a one-game lead over Cleveland in the American League Central, winning the final two contests in a four-game holiday weekend series.
Chicago bulk reliever Erick Fedde (4-6) worked 5 1/3 innings and gave up three runs (two earned) on eight hits. Sean Newcomb recorded the last five outs for his third save as manager Will Venable continues to mix and match his bullpen pieces.
Colin Holderman (4-2) failed to retire a hitter in the sixth and was charged with the loss when Erik Sabrowski induced Antonacci's groundout.
Colson Montgomery and Kyle Teel each hit two-run homers and Tristan Peters had a solo shot against Guardians starter Tanner Bibee. Colson Montgomery leads all shortstops with 23 home runs, including two in the last two days.
Teel went deep in the first, Peters followed in the second and Colson Montgomery cleared the fence in the third as the White Sox seized a 6-3 lead.
Gabriel Arias belted a three-run shot for the Guardians in the fifth off Fedde, tying the score at 6-6. The 446-foot rocket was the longest of his career.
Chase DeLauter had a two-run homer and Daniel Schneemann added an RBI single in the first for Cleveland, which took a 3-2 lead in chasing opener Chris Murphy after two outs. Murphy allowed three hits, walked one and struck out one.
DeLauter and Kyle Manzardo each scored twice. Bibee gave up six runs on six hits over four innings with one walk and one strikeout.
The first pitch was delayed 20 minutes by rain, then for another hour after the umpires deemed the warning track unplayable. A fork lift and a dozen ballpark staffers were involved in repairing the water damage.
Cleveland failed on two ABS challenges in the first, leaving it without any for the remainder of the game.
