Whitecaps acquire Peruvian M Kenji Cabrera

Mandatory Credit: Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images The Vancouver Whitecaps acquired midfielder Kenji Cabrera from FBC Melgar of Peru on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old Peruvian international is under contract through 2028 with an option for 2029.
Cabrera will occupy U22 Initiative and international roster slots with Vancouver.
"Kenji is a player with the ability to impact the game offensively in central and wide areas," Whitecaps sporting director Axel Schuster said. "In the last year, we've seen him develop into a key part of Melgar, and we believe he's ready to take the next step in his career."
Cabrera, who was born in Japan, tallied 16 goals and 17 assists in 122 matches with FBC Melgar from 2021-25.
