It was not immediately known how serious Vondrousova's injury was or if her status for the first Grand Slam of the year next week would be impacted.
Vondrousova, the No. 7 seed in the women's draw at the Australian Open set to begin in five days, was replaced by lucky loser Taylor Townsend in Adelaide. Townsend defeated Russian qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich, 6-3, 7-6 (4) to advance to the second round.
Vondrousova, from the Czech Republic, played in the United Cup in Perth, Australia, losing a Dec. 30 match to China's Qinwen Zheng.
In 2023, Vondrousova became the first unseeded woman to win Wimbledon, defeating 2022 runner-up Ons Jabeur 6-4, 6-4 on Saturday.
