World's Worst Boxer Is Down For The Long, Excruciating Count
British welterweight Peter Buckley gets knocked down, but he gets up again, and they ain't never gonna keep him down. At least not until after his next fight, the 300th of his career, which he says will be his last. That's an impressive number of professional bouts, but not nearly as impressive as his won-loss record: 43-256, including 88 consecutive defeats. He's like the Lou Gehrig of getting punched in the face. Known as a "solid defender" who rarely gets hit or knocked out, the glorified sparring partner continues to hold a license despite his penchant for showing up to fights already bruised and even accepting challenges as late as 8:00 p.m. on the night of the bout.
'I’m always in the gym, so if I get a call a couple of hours before a fight, I usually say yes,' he said. 'If you phone up a bricklayer and ask him to build you a wall, he doesn’t ask for three weeks to prepare.'
Good point. But you also don't hit the bricklayer in the face with his bricks. The most intriguing part of the story, however, is the 43 chumps who actually lost to this guy. How do you explain that one to your corner? • Counted out: World’s worst boxer throws in the towel after 256 defeats [Daily Mail, via The Queensberry Rules]
