Mandatory Credit: John Jones-Imagn Images Yankees left-hander Max Fried is expected to return from the injured list and rejoin the rotation early next week when New York visits the Chicago White Sox, manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday on the "Talkin' Yanks" podcast.
Fried, 32, is set to throw 60 pitches Wednesday in his second rehab outing at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Fried started Friday night for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, his first in-game action since landing on the IL on May 16 with a bone bruise in his left elbow. He allowed two runs and five hits with three strikeouts and no walks on 52 pitches over three innings.
Following a strong start in 2026, Fried (4-3, 3.21 ERA) struggled in May, allowing 11 earned runs and 17 hits in 14 1/3 innings over three starts. He was 4-1 with a 2.09 ERA through seven starts (47 1/3 IP) in March and April.
After eight years with the Atlanta Braves (2017-24), Fried signed an eight-year, $218 million contract with the Yankees prior to the 2025 campaign. He made his third All-Star team with New York last season and finished 19-5 with a 2.86 ERA in 32 starts.
Fried is 96-44 in 210 appearances (193 starts) with a 3.04 ERA in 10 major league seasons.
The Yankees start a four-game series against the White Sox next Monday.
