Yankees LHP Max Fried (elbow) to return from IL to face Red Sox

Left-handed pitcher Max Fried will return from the injured list to start one of Saturday's two games against the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Friday.

Lefty Carlos Rodon will start the other game, though Boone has not decided who will start which game.

Fried, 32, has been out since Aug. 14 with a bone bruise in his left elbow that caused him to miss two months earlier this season.

He made five starts since his initial return from the IL on July 22 and allowed one run or fewer in four of them. He held the Seattle Mariners to one run on five hits in five innings Aug. 13 in a hard-luck 1-0 loss.

Fried is 4-4 with a 2.81 ERA over 15 starts with 79 strikeouts and 27 walks. The three-time All-Star is in his second season with the Yankees and won an MLB-best 19 games in 2025.

Fellow lefty Jake Bennett is scheduled to start the first game of the doubleheader for the Red Sox, while the starter for the second game has not yet been announced.
