Brewers 1B Rhys Hoskins (thumb) to miss 6 weeks

Mandatory Credit: Brad Rempel-Imagn Images On Saturday, the hope was that Rhys Hoskins would sit for only a few days with a thumb injury. Unfortunately for the Milwaukee Brewers, the first baseman expects to miss much more time.
Hoskins, 32, told reporters Tuesday that a recent MRI revealed a UCL left thumb sprain that could keep him off the field for about six weeks.
"I'll be doing my work in the quiet," Hoskins said, "helping these guys as much as I can off the field so that we can continue our push toward the playoffs."
He suffered the injury during Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Miami Marlins, during which he attempted to tag out a runner on an errant throw.
"Unfortunately, the timing of the play didn't allow me to tag him in a safer manner," Hoskins said. "But, again, that's a part of the game. That's a part of the position."
In 82 games this season, Hoskins is slashing .242/.340/.428 with 12 home runs and 42 RBIs. In two years with Milwaukee, Hoskins has appeared in 213 games, batting .224 with 38 homers and 124 RBIs.
With Hoskins landing on the injured list Monday, Milwaukee called up 27-year-old Andrew Vaughn, who homered in his first at-bat with the team that night.
