Blind Item: Which Current President Used To Have Too Much Of The Bubbly?
This image was lost some time after publication. Remember a couple of years ago, when Mets catcher Mike Piazza called a press conference to let everyone know he wasn't gay? Anybody remember why he had to do that? Because the New York Post's Page Six ran a blind item. It said:
There is a persistent rumor around town that one Mets star who spends a lot of time with pretty models in clubs is actually gay and has started to think about declaring his sexual orientation.
Now, to a gossip reporter who knows nothing about sports, this could be considered a "blind" item. To anyone who knew anything, it was obviously referring to Piazza; hence, the immediate press conference. This is why mainstream gossip reporters should write blind items about Liza Minelli and Jm J. Bullock, rather than athletes they couldn't pick out of a lineup. Because it's happened again. From today's Page Six:
WHICH foreign-born sports phenom lies about his age? Though he landed a multimillion-dollar sneaker deal as a 14-year-old, whispers are he's closer to 20.
Hmm. The only way this could be easier if it said "He plays soccer and has a last name that rhymes with what Fred Flintstone said when he was happy."
