British People Are So Cute
This image was lost some time after publication. The UK Observer, a London newspaper that writes about soccer a lot and mentions Jean-Luc Godard whenever it has the opportunity, has noticed something from up on high that tickles its fancy: American sports. Yep: The Brits are fascinated with American sports — much like they're fascinated with American curiosities like "money," "military presence" and "dentists" — and have devoted an exhaustive series looking into just why those Americans are so crazy about their sports yet still resist the urge to kill each other during games.
All kinds of highlights here, but we're just gonna focus on a few.
· Listing celebrities and their favorite sports teams, they include "Ben Affleck and the Boston Celtics," "Kirsten Dunst and the LA Lakers" and "Tom Selleck and the Detroit Tigers." · The best moment in U.S. sports history, according to the Observer, is the Baltimore Colts winning the National Football League championship by beating the New York Giants in 1958. You remember that. · Our favorite line: "Americans, in fact, could have ended up staying in striped caps and cricket whites. And baseball, far from being an all-American baby, may have been spawned by French monks and nuns."
You really have to check out the whole thing. It's very cute to watch British people try to figure out football.
