Chip Kelly Speaks, Makes Some Amount Of Sense
All the craziness that's been going on with the Eagles has raised a lot of questions, not all of which are unutterably stupid. Head coach Chip Kelly answered some of the reasonable ones at a press conference today.
Kelly is no longer just the head coach; he also controls personnel now, and he hasn't wasted any time letting everyone know it. Yesterday, the team traded Nick Foles away for Sam Bradford, and Kelly might have overpaid a bit with the inclusion of a 2016 second-round pick, but apparently the quarterback who hasn't played a full season since 2012 is a hot commodity. The coach says he'll keep Bradford (and Mark Sanchez) and won't trade up in the draft for former Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota:
Bradford is one of his men now, but Big Balls Chip claimed he heard a nice offer for him just this morning:
Chip had jokes, too:
Good one, Chip. ;)
A few minutes after Kelly's session, Adam Schefter reported that the Eagles had signed running back Ryan Mathews.
Despite signing Mathews, the Eagles are reportedly still in play for running back DeMarco Murray:
This is so fun and confusing. What'll Kelly do next? Trade both of his quarterbacks and picks for Drew Brees? (Let's hope so.)
