Engstrand is the latest offseason addition to the Falcons, who also have hired Kevin Stefanski as head coach, Tommy Rees as offensive coordinator and Alex Van Pelt as quarterbacks coach within the last two weeks.
Engstrand, 43, spent this season as the offensive coordinator with the New York Jets. He was fired by the team last week.
Engstrand joined the Jets in January 2025 after spending time on the Detroit Lions' staff since 2020, including as the club's passing game coordinator during the 2022-24 seasons. He followed Aaron Glenn to New York after the Jets tapped Glenn, then Detroit's defensive coordinator, as their head coach.
Under Engstrand, the Jets were last in the NFL in passing yards per game (140.3) this season. They ranked 29th in the NFL in points (17.6 ppg) and total yards (263.6 ypg).
Justin Fields started nine games at quarterback for the Jets while Tyrod Taylor and rookie Brady Cook started four apiece. They combined for a 75.0 passer-efficiency rating, which trailed all teams except Stefanski's Cleveland Browns (70.0).
