Four-time Pro Bowl QB Norm Snead dies at 84

Quarterback Norm Snead, a four-time Pro Bowl selection in the NFL, died at age 84.

Wake Forest, where Snead played college football, confirmed the death. Snead reportedly died Sunday after a lengthy illness.

Snead passed for 30,797 yards, 196 touchdowns and 257 interceptions in 16 NFL seasons with Washington (1961-63), the Philadelphia Eagles (1964-70), Minnesota Vikings (1971), New York Giants (1972-74, 1976) and San Francisco 49ers (1974-75). His interception total is sixth-most in NFL history.

After starring for Wake Forest, Snead was the No. 2 overall pick of the 1961 NFL draft by Washington and was a Pro Bowl pick in both 1962 and 1963.

Washington traded him to Philadelphia in a deal that brought quarterback Sonny Jurgensen, a future Hall of Famer, to the Eagles. Snead made the Pro Bowl for the Eagles in 1965 and again made it later in his career with the Giants in 1972.

Snead established career highs of 3,399 yards and 29 touchdown passes for the Eagles in 1967.

Overall, he started 159 games and had a 52-100-7 record.
