Joey Chestnut resolved his beef with the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest and will make his return to the event on July 4 at Coney Island, N.Y.
The 16-time champion did not participate in last year's contest because of a disagreement regarding his conflicting sponsorship with Impossible Foods, a company that makes plant-based "meat" products.
"I'm thrilled to be returning," the 41-year-old competitive eater dubbed "Jaws" posted Monday on Instagram. "... This event means the world to me. It's a cherished tradition, a celebration of American culture, and a huge part of my life."
Chestnut had participated in the Nathan's contest since 2005, racking up wins from 2007-14 and again from 2016-23. He set the record in 2021 by consuming 76 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes.
"While I have and continue to partner with a variety of companies, including some in the plant-based space, those relationships were never a conflict with my love for hot dogs. To be clear: Nathan's is the only hot dog company I've ever worked with," Chestnut posted.
"I respect that there were differences in interpretation, but I'm grateful we've been able to find common ground. I'm excited to be back on the Coney Island stage, doing what I live to do, and celebrating the Fourth of July with hot dogs in my hands! Stay hungry!"
Patrick Bertoletti is the defending champion after downing 58 hot dogs in Chestnut's absence in 2024.
