Miami Dolphins Fire Head Coach Joe Philbin
Well, that all went to shit in a hurry. After three embarrassing losses to the Jaguars, Bills, and Jets, the Miami Dolphins have fired head coach Joe Philbin.
The Dolphins have been so bad this year that’s almost impossible to believe that there was ever any optimism surrounding this team in the preseason. After two straight 8-8 campaigns, this season was supposed to be a step forward. Ndamukong Suh was brought in to lead a ferocious defensive line, Kenny Stills was supposed to catch some touchdowns, and Ryan Tannehill was supposed to not completely suck, maybe. None of that has happened, though— Suh and the defense have been especially bad, surrendering exactly 428 yards of total offense in each of the last two weeks.
So now Joe Philbin, a coach who I don’t think has ever earned a description more generous than “you know, that one guy ... from the Dolphins...” has to pay the price. Tight ends coach Dan Campbell will stand in as interim head coach and likely preside over a very shitty season before being jettisoned when the Dolphins decide to go after, say, Les Miles or something.
