Nick Gordon's blast helps Marlins sink Mariners

Mandatory Credit: Jim Rassol-USA TODAY Sports Nick Gordon slugged a three-run, first-inning home run, leading the host Miami Marlins to a 6-4 win over the Seattle Mariners on Sunday afternoon.
Marlins closer Tanner Scott loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth before he got Julio Rodriguez on a looping liner to second baseman Otto Lopez, who made a leaping catch while falling backward and going to his left. That gave Scott his ninth save this season.
The Marlins, who are in last place in the National League East, never trailed, concluding a 4-2 homestead with series wins over the St. Louis Cardinals and Mariners. Three of the victories were walk-off wins.
Seattle, which leads the American League West, has lost four of its past five games. The Mariners are also 1-6-1 in their past eight road series.
Before the game, Miami placed Braxton Garrett on the injured list due to an elbow issue. He is the seventh starting pitcher the Marlins currently have on the injured list.
With Garrett out, Kyle Tyler made his first major league start. He allowed two runs, three hits and three walks in four innings, earning a no-decision.
The Marlins lead the majors in a dubious statistic as Tyler became the 13th starter Miami has used this season.
A.J. Puk (1-8) pitched two perfect innings, picking up his first win since Sept. 30.
Bryce Miller (6-6) took the loss, allowing six runs, six hits and one walk in four innings. He struck out three.
Miami got to Miller right away with a rally that started with Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s leadoff double and Jesus Sanchez's two-out walk. Jake Burger's single scored Chisholm, who had missed Saturday's game due to a bicep injury.
Gordon followed by pulling his three-run homer to right.
Miami extended its lead to 5-0 in the second as Vidal Brujan singled, advanced on a hit-and-run groundout and scored on Chisholm's bloop single to right.
The Marlins made it 6-0 in the third on a bomb by Sanchez, who pulled a 429-foot homer to right.
Seattle cut its deficit to 6-2 in the fourth as Dominic Canzone walked and Luke Raley lofted a two-out, opposite-field homer to left.
In the seventh, Seattle sliced its deficit to 6-4 with both runs charged to reliever Huascar Brazoban, who was made to change his glove because the gray color was too similar to the ball and therefore distracting to the batter.
Seattle pounced with RBIs by Ryan Bliss (groundout) and J.P. Crawford (two-out single against Andrew Nardi).
