No, Since You Asked, I Don't Believe In Miracles
This image was lost some time after publication. The dream has ended for the U.S. Olympic men's hockey team. They just lost in the quarterfinals to Finland, though it may have been the best hockey they've played yet, at least in stretches. Finland beat them 4-3.
Olli Jokinen scored twice for the Finns, and Brian Gionta, Mike Knuble, and Mathieu Schneider scored for Team America. Our guys just couldn't stop taking penalties (11 in the game), which is bad news when your penalty killing and power play units aren't very good.
Oh well. We weren't expected to medal, and the Finns were undefeated thus far... this is not a shock, though it is sort of frustrating. We're supposed to compete well in the "major" sports. It kind of makes me wish fighting was legal in Olympic hockey, so we could at least exact some bloody vengeance.
And somehow, I believe this is Wayne Gretzky's fault.
