Predators extend dominance over Islanders to 10 games

Jean-Gabriel Pageau's goal with exactly eight minutes left snapped a scoreless tie for New York, but Luke Evangelista scored on the power play with 4:52 left. Then the Predators stunned the Islanders in the waning seconds to win their 10th straight game between the teams.
Filip Forsberg skated around the back of the Islanders' net and passed to Jeremy Lauzon, who dished to Carrier. New York defenseman Scott Mayfield got in Carrier's lane, but the shot broke Mayfield's stick and fluttered over the shoulder of goalie Ilya Sorokin.
Juuso Parssinen added an empty-netter in the final second for the Predators, who have not lost to the Islanders since Oct. 28, 2017. New York has forced overtime or a shootout just twice during Nashville's streak.
Goalie Juuse Saros made 24 saves as the Predators won for the second time in as many nights — they beat the host Dallas Stars 6-3 on Friday — and for the fifth time in seven games (5-2-0).
Sorokin recorded 25 saves for the Islanders, who have lost three of four (1-3-0) and five of seven (2-4-1).
The two teams combined for just 32 shots during the first two scoreless periods, a span in which they were each 0-for-2 on the power play.
The Islanders began the third-period flurry when Cal Clutterbuck collected the rebound of his shot and passed to Noah Dobson a few feet in front of the blue line, before Pageau redirected Dobson's shot.
Kyle Palmieri was whistled for tripping with 6:47 left to set up the power play that yielded Evangelista's goal. Evangelista took a pass from Ryan McDonagh past the stick of defenseman Adam Pelech and over Sorokin's stick shoulder.
