Raiders Fire Dennis Allen After 0-4 Start
It turns out that the AP reporter who reported that Raiders head coach Dennis Allen was about to be fired before being like, "Nah, haha ignore me!" was onto something after all. Last night, the Raiders, who suck, announced that Allen had been sacked.
Allen's tenure was about as disastrous as it gets. In 2012, he took over a Raiders team that had posted consecutive 8-8 seasons, and then proceeded to lead them to two straight 4-12 finishes. This year's 0-4 start gave the Raiders 10 straight losses dating back to last November, and the team's -51 point differential this year is good for the second-worst mark in the league.
This hasn't all been Allen's fault, of course. The Raiders are a shoddily run organization that does dumb things, like cutting Matt Flynn after trading two draft picks to get him and then swapping another pick for Matt Schaub's corpse. The Raiders' recent failures are just as much an indictment on GM Reggie McKenzie, whose first act after filling the deceased Al Davis's role was to hire Allen. This is a shit team, and it's going to take a lot more than a new coach to change that.
